Paul is a 1972 graduate of the University of Rhode Island and a 1977 graduate of Bryant College with an MBA in accounting. Paul is a member of the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Paul has over thirty years of experience in public accounting with expertise in business consulting and auditing for closely-held companies including medical practices, auto dealerships, manufacturers, distributors, nonprofit organizations and pension plans.

Paul currently serves on the board of directors of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Rhode Island Chamber Political Actions Committee. He has served as treasurer of the board of directors of Amos House, Mental Health Services, and was a past member of the Governor's Council on Mental Health as well as on the finance committe of his church.
