Managing Partner & Principal
Managing Partner & Principal
Passion is not a word that you will often hear in the halls and offices of most CPA firms in this country. Yet, it’s probably the word that best defines Ned, professionally.
Who better to be the managing partner of one of Rhode Island’s largest privately held CPA firms than someone who thinks like an entrepreneur, acts like a confidante, speaks like an expert, and is passionate about every phase of his job and profession? That would be Ned McCrory.
Ned has spent his entire career in the accounting profession. From his humble beginnings as a junior accountant at a large CPA firm to his local, one-person CPA firm with a long list of local clients, to today heading a firm known for its unique style, points of view, and diverse client list.
Ned built BFMM on all the basic tenets and best practices of the accounting profession and then he “McCrory-ized” all of them.
What does that mean? With the blessing and support of his partners, Ned identified industries, untapped areas of expertise, and business opportunities that BFMM could excel in. For example, in the late 80s, Ned’s passion for golf, combined with his accounting expertise and entrepreneurial spirit, created his desire to help managers of Private Clubs think more like the businesses they are.
Today, Ned heads up our Private Club Practice Group. Our client list ranks us as one of the largest CPA firms in the US in this category. Along the way, Ned has been a featured contributor twice in “The Bottomline” and he is also recognized as a nationwide industry leader who is an invited speaker at multiple industry events across the country.
Ned is outgoing, sincere, motivated and comes to work every day wanting to make a difference for his clients and those of us working with him. He is licensed as a CPA in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Florida and Utah. Ned is a magna cum laude graduate of Bryant University in Smithfield, RI where he earned a BS Degree in Accounting.
Ned is involved in the local community because of his passion to help, mentor and advise. He is President of the New England Chapter of Private Club Controllers. He’s a member of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce Board and Waterfire Board. He was recently appointed a member of Roger Williams University Business Advisory Board. He is on the Board of Directors of The Society of The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He has also served on many committees for the RISCPA including, not surprisingly, chairing their annual golf tournament since 1993 (which, by the way, has been an annual sellout every year).
Ned resides in Wickford, Rhode Island with his wife, April Williams McCrory and children Alex and Kate. Believe it or not, he has some free time and puts it to good use on the golf course, at any number of great Irish pubs or networking at business or social events.
Paul has more than earned the right to sit back and “put it on cruise control.” But Paul doesn’t seem to be aware that this is an option for him. He is as focused and committed to our firm, our clients, and our team as he was the first day BFMM opened its doors.
Paul had the foresight to help create a CPA firm that was known for being more than the run-of-the-mill CPA firm. He continues to believe that a major way to accomplish that goal is to create long-term relationships with his clients. He is passionate about anticipating clients’ needs, delivering high-quality service second to none, and proactively recommending effective solutions. Over the years, due to that combination, our clients see Paul as an advisor, business partner and friend. Despite Paul’s decades-long career, he still finds that learning about a client’s business and being able to offer valuable and actionable feedback and support continues to be one of the most rewarding parts of his job.
As one of the founding partners of BFMM, Paul has over 30 years of experience in public accounting. He is a business consulting specialist as well as providing audit and accounting services to closely-held companies, non-profits, and 401(k) and pension plans.
Paul is a member of the RISCPA and the AICPA. He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and holds an MBA in accounting from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.
Paul is as involved in the community as he is with our clients. He is the Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Newport County YMCA as well as a member of the board of incorporators of Newport Hospital. He has previously served as treasurer of the Board of Amos House, as well as a board member of Mental Health Services, the Governor’s Council on Mental Health and Wanumetonomy Country Club.
Steve believes client service is at the center of every strong client relationship. Steve’s unique brand of client service combines his experience, passion for entrepreneurship, and an engaging and friendly demeanor. Combine all of that with a great sense of humor and it’s easy to understand why Steve creates collaborative client relationships where clients invite him to go beyond the numbers and become more than a CPA. He becomes a trusted member of their team. This might explain why throughout his career Steve has developed a number of lasting friendships with both current and previous clients.
Working mostly with privately held entrepreneur companies, Steve has over 25 years of auditing and business consulting experience. His industry knowledge is diverse, but when pressed he will tell you that he has strong experience working with the manufacturing sector, technology sector and the food industry.
Steve heads up the BFMM audit department and is on the McGladrey Alliance accounting and auditing practice leader committee. He is a member of the AICPA and the MSCPA. Over his career, Steve has also been involved in various industry and charitable organizations.
Steve graduated with a BS degree in business management from Babson College in Wellesley, MA. Before joining BFMM, he worked for two national accounting firms, BDO Siedman and McGladrey.
Steve grew up in Andover, MA and currently lives in North Attleboro, MA with his wife Jacqueline and their four children. As dedicated as Steve is to his work and clients, he is a strong believer in work-life balance. Outside of work he can be found visiting his children at their respective colleges and tailgating at football games. He also enjoys spending time on the Cape, golf (which he played collegiately at Babson College), music, travel, and New England Patriots football games.

Jean embodies the corporate culture, personality and attributes of BFMM. On her credentials and experience alone Jean is a valued and respected source for her clients. But add to her experience and expertise her uncanny insight, being proactive, and displaying genuine care and it’s easy to see why Jean’s clients trust and rely on her as a valued business partner. Just like we all do here at BFMM.
Jean takes a keen interest in helping clients anticipate their needs and solving their problems. Her clients are predominantly mid-sized businesses as well as individuals who rely on Jean for a wide range of advice on financial and family issues. Jean’s clients find her to be a resourceful guide in helping them build their businesses and securing future financial security for their families. Nothing is more exciting to Jean than helping clients develop and execute sound strategies for business and/or personal financial growth.
Jean’s entire career has been in public accounting. While here at BFMM since 1991, she became a partner in 2000.
Jean is a member of the AICPA and the RISCPA. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Providence College where she earned her BS degree in Accounting.
Despite her overwhelming commitment to her clients, Jean is a big supporter of continuous learning and education. She is an active member of RISCPA’s committee on continuing professional education. Jean also has a passion for non-profit work. She is the treasurer on the board of directors for Insight, a non -profit organization that promotes independence and opportunities for people with vision loss.
When on her “own time” away from all her professional commitments, Jean can be found walking her dogs, hiking, cooking, cross-country skiing and playing golf. Jean is a lover of all animals, the proof being that she currently shares her home with two dogs and three cats.
George brings an energy and creativity to the tax profession. That comes from a basic philosophy of providing more than a client asks for or expects. Treating every client as the individual they are means being willing to take the initiative to provide customized solutions. George refers to this as “business tax planning”. He defines that as providing clients with tax planning strategies that make sense for their particular business and/or personal situation. Most of George’s clients are owners of closely held businesses and they rely on him for a wide range of advice including income tax and estate planning tax. With over 25 years as a CPA, George has not only earned his clients professional trust but also, perhaps more importantly, their friendship.
Early in his career, George worked in the tax group of a large, national CPA firm. He took that valuable experience and eventually joined BFMM. As a tax partner with our firm since 2000, he has developed expertise in real estate, partnerships, S corporations, mergers and acquisitions and technology companies. Recently, he has added expertise in the private club sector and international law area to his extensive background and experience.
George is a member of the AICPA, RISCPA and a board director on the Estate Planning Council of Rhode Island. George is a frequent guest speaker on an extensive range of tax-related topics for both professional organizations and the general public. George earned both a BS and MS in Taxation (with honors) from Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.
George’s community also benefits from his experience, expertise and time. He currently serves on the board of The Greater Providence YMCA and is the treasurer of the North Kingstown Booster Club. With all that George does professionally, he still finds time to spend with his wife, Cindy, and their three children. George is also an avid cyclist, and enjoys gardening, skiing and an occasional round of golf.
Some might say that accounting is nothing more than rules, regulations, laws and numbers. But don’t count Michael among those who define accounting that way. Michael is a rare breed in our profession.
He brings a unique combination of expertise, passion and empathy to our clients and to BFMM. Michael’s insights into business and accounting make him the perfect advocate for our clients and their enterprises. He not only understands his clients as businesspeople, but also respects them as individuals with their own individual sets of needs, goals and dreams. Being holistic about accounting and taxation helps Michael provide an endless stream of creative and practical solutions that his clients value for their effectiveness.
Michael has been a CPA for over 30 years. During that time, he has worked for the IRS as well as Big Four accounting firms. Working “both sides” gives him not only significant experience, but also a fascinating perspective. Since joining BFMM, Michael has honed his deep expertise to be even more relevant in dealing with the tax issues facing today’s closely held businesses.
As a member of the tax division of the AICPA and the RISCPA, Michael continues to expand his knowledge base enabling him to never rest on his laurels and continue to serve his clients. Michael is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and he earned his MS degree in taxation at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Not coincidentally, since 1989 Michael has been a professor of corporate taxation at Bryant University in their Masters in Taxation Program. This experience allows Michael to not only develop future tax professionals but also stay current on trends in accounting and taxation.
Despite what one would call a full schedule, Michael enjoys time with his wife, Joanne, and two daughters, Jamie and Jackie.

To our clients, Liz may appear to be one of our “behind the scenes” people. But she’s far from that. While she may not work directly with our clients, she most certainly impacts them on a daily basis.
Liz is actively involved in the promotion and growth of BFMM. Her core responsibilities are helping to develop the marketing, advertising and media relations for us, while also participating in business development. Her goals are to acquire new clients and expand existing clients’ knowledge of ongoing and new services that we offer them.
Liz has genuine warmth and sincere enthusiasm that help her immediately connect with others. She has a true passion for networking, business development and building long-lasting client relationships.
Prior to joining BFMM Liz was the Sales and Marketing Manager for The Capital Grille in Boston and Chestnut Hill, MA. Away from the office, she treasures a good book, Zumba, traveling and spending time with her husband and their young daughter. She also hopes to finally take up golf.
There are people out there who need to be motivated to get things done. Fortunately for us, and her clients, Lisa is not one of them. Lisa is the epitome of self-motivation. There are no half-hearted efforts in Lisa’s life. She attacks every issue, problem and opportunity with an energy that her clients admire. She works tirelessly, regardless of the size of her client, to come up with the right tax planning strategies for any given situation.
While her client efforts and commitments keep her busy, her door is never closed to any team member who needs to talk. And while it’s not on her resume, Lisa also plays a large role in the development and training of our junior accountants.
Lisa has over 25 years of experience in public accounting with both national and regional firms. She has spent most of her career working with closely held businesses in manufacturing, retail and real estate. Broadening her experience, while at BFMM, Lisa has worked on foreign reporting and also completed extensive tax legislative research for Congress. She has had a relatively quiet but significant impact on Rhode Island’s tax laws.
Lisa is a member of the AICPA and serves on the Tax Committee for the RISCPA. She is often an invited guest speaker at professional organizations where she addresses a wide range of tax-related topics. She is a graduate of Bryant University, where she earned a BS degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
When Lisa isn’t at work advising clients or mentoring juniors, she can be found networking at a number of charitable organizations’ functions. She is also a huge sports fan, particularly hockey and baseball. She is frequently spotted and heard attending her son’s hockey games. She fills her remaining free time with her family and her newest knitting project.

The old saying “opposites attract” doesn’t really apply to Steve and BFMM. BFMM is a firm dedicated to bettering our clients’ businesses; which is what Steve exemplifies as an audit manager. Steve, like his BFMM peers, isn’t good at managing from afar or being detached from his clients, he prefers a hands-on approach.
It’s little wonder that Steve has been described as committed, conscientious and hard-working. Steve takes a proactive role on all of his client interactions and engagements. And more importantly, despite his need to be involved, his work is always meticulous and deadline sensitive.
Steve has over 16 years of professional experience in providing accounting, auditing and management advisory services to small and mid-sized businesses. Based on his desire to be an integral part of his clients’ financial teams, it should come as no surprise that Steve is also certified as a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). The global management accounting title identifies the distinctive role played by management accountants in guiding critical business decisions and driving strong business performance.
Steve is a magna cum laude graduate from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the AICPA.
When Steve isn’t working, he can be found spending as much time as possible at home in Swansea, Massachusetts with his wife, Kimberly, and their two sons, Brady and Logan. Together they also enjoy visiting the Roger Williams Park Zoo and Boston Museum of Science. Steve also coaches T-Ball for the Swansea Little League.
We’ve all run into people best described as problem-awarers and problem-seekers. And, unfortunately, there are problem-causers out there as well. We are proud to state that Carol is a problem-solver. She is able to quickly assess a problem and quickly come to a solution or recommend solutions to others, always with a goal of making those solutions simple and actionable.
Carol is available to answer a question or assist with a project. Her straightforward manner and common sense business approach make it possible for BFMM to run smoothly on a day-to-day basis. Her interactions with our clients are always described by them as being worthwhile and productive.
Carol is a graduate of Georgetown University, with a BS degree in Economics. She has been with BFMM since the day we opened our doors. She is proud of that long history with us and we are equally proud of our history with her. Carol works directly with the Managing Partner to coordinate the administrative, personnel and internal accounting functions of the firm.
Carol is the mother of, in her own words; “two great, young adults.” Outside of the office, Carol sings in her church choir, goes hiking with her husband, and loves getting lost in her next great book.
